From Australian Aboriginal to international contemporary art Sydney museums and galleries showcase our country, our history and our time, both the good and the bad.
Explore indigenous art and culture through the works of Australian Aboriginal artists, working in centuries old traditions, re-interpreting them in today's materials. And don't forget my list of questions to ask before you buy an Aboriginal painting, to ensure that both you and the artist get a fair deal.
Don't overlook the smaller galleries. Like the White Rabbit in Chippendale which specialises in contemporary Chinese art. Or the Brett Whitely gallery in Surry Hills, for an intimate look at one of Sydney's own sons.
Most public galleries offer free entry to their permanent collection. Special exhibitions are almost inevitably ticketed (paid).
