The Sydney Easter Show is traditionally when Country comes to visit Town. These days it is at Homebush, at the main venue used for the very successful Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.

If you are visiting around Easter, especially if you have young ones in tow, a day at the Sydney Show can be up to 12 hours.

There are the usual games, rides, food at sometimes eye-watering prices (you can bring your own with you), displays of food, arts & crafts - and ANIMALS!

Your chance to see angora goats, alpacas, pigs, as well as horses, cattle, sheep and dogs (but no cats).

This year there were snakes and lizards too.

There's wood chopping, and all sorts of other events, often involving horses. It's a great opportunity for keen photographers too.

Royal Easter Show Sydney, hmmn
by: Elle

I have to admit that I don't rush off joyfully to the Sydney Show. Maybe that's because I'm not really into showbags and big crowds.

Every child I've ever known loves it, so it's sort of mandatory if you're a parent.

But the woodchopping gets me in, as do the animals. And I love the hall with all the knitting, quilting, decorated cakes, graphically arranged preserves, biggest ever pumpkins and so on. It's somewhat awe-inspiring to see the time and effort put into traditional crafts. Sometimes with amazingly creative and beautiful results (other times v-e-r-y kitsch, almost as good).

So definitely yes, visitors will get to understand something about Sydney by going here - I'd love to hear exactly what.
