Richard Bell, Australian artist

I just recently bought a limited print 320/1000 signed by Richard Bell in 95.

It is titled "longfellow" and is a beautiful lizard. I wonder if you could tell me where I might view the original, as my print is only 4ins x 6ins.

Steve, you've sent me off on a wonderful voyage of discovery trying to track this painting down.

I haven't been successful, unfortunately.

It may be that the artist made it as a print, which makes every numbered version original - apart from the prints only the plates would exist.

But I can't say for sure. It's the size that makes me suggest that as a possibility.

Richard Bell is a Queensland artist and is represented by Milani Gallery, Brisbane, so you might be able to get more information if you contact them.

If you're not familiar with his oeuvre, Bell is a well known political activist as well as an artist, and regularly confronts his audiences with images and ideas uncomfortable to white Australia.

He has a solo exhiition currently showing at ARTSPACE in Woolloomooloo in Sydney.

It's called Imagining Victory and it showcases his latest work, The Dinner Party, which is the culmination of a trilogy of films which started with Scratch an Aussie (2008), followed by Broken English (2009).

ArtSpace is at 43–51 Cowper Wharf Road Woolloomooloo NSW 2011 Sydney Australia
