Buddha's Birthday, the birthday of Prince Siddhartha Gautama, was celebrated in Sydney Australia yesterday. There were perhaps 200,000 people (including me) at a festival at Darling Harbour.

At the time of the 2001 census, there were just under 500,000 people in Australia who consider themselves to be Buddhist.

This is small in a total population of 21 million, but a substantial proportion of those live in the greater Sydney metropolitan region.

There are many more Australians who were born in east Asia or whose parents were, and are, sympathetic to Buddhist culture.

I took photos, but you really had to be there. Perhaps next year...*

In the meantime:

... Do good things
... Speak good words
... Think good thoughts

* Buddha's birthday is celebrated on the 8th day of the fourth month of the Chinese lunar calendar. Here are the dates in the Gregorian calendar:

28 May 2012
17 May 2013
06 May 2014
25 May 2015
